Final Call for Views on Local Government Reorganisation in Sussex — Consultation Closes 15 June 2026

Residents, businesses, and stakeholders across Sussex are being urged to have their say on proposed changes to local government structures before the consultation closes on 15 June 2026.

The government has been reviewing options to reorganise local government across Sussex, including proposals to create new unitary councils. An initial statutory consultation took place over eight weeks from 19 November 2025 to 11 January 2026, inviting feedback from all those affected.

Following this, updated proposals have been developed. A further consultation on these modifications is now underway and will run for five weeks, providing a final opportunity for communities to influence the outcome.

Act Now — Deadline Approaching

The consultation period will close on Sunday 15 June 2026, and responses received after this date may not be considered. Individuals and organisations are strongly encouraged to participate before the deadline to ensure their views are heard.

Background

Four potential options for restructuring local government in Sussex have been under consideration. These proposals aim to simplify governance arrangements and improve service delivery by establishing new unitary authorities.

Local councils, including Brighton & Hove City Council, have submitted their responses, which will be considered alongside public feedback and other evidence by government ministers.

Next Steps

All responses from this consultation will inform the government’s final decision on the future structure of local government in Sussex.
