The Department for Business and Trade has opened a major public consultation on new measures designed to Make Work Pay and deliver greater security for people in zero‑hours and similar flexible contracts. The proposals—set out under the Employment Rights Act 2025—aim to rebalance workplace flexibility and ensure workers receive predictable hours, fair notice of shifts, and compensation when work is cancelled at short notice.
The consultation invites employers, workers, representative bodies and stakeholders across England, Scotland and Wales to share their views on how these new rights should be implemented. Feedback will help shape final regulations before they come into force.
The government is encouraging responses through the online survey, supporting efficient analysis and policy development ahead of the consultation closing on 25 August 2026.
