The Sussex and Brighton Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) 2026–2029 has been approved by Skills England and will shortly receive formal sign-off from the Secretary of State, marking a major milestone in the region’s efforts to build a highly skilled, productive and future-ready workforce.
Published through Future Skills Sussex, the employer-led plan provides a shared framework for employers, education and training providers, local authorities and strategic partners to work together to address skills needs across Sussex and Brighton over the next three years. The LSIP has been developed in line with Skills England statutory guidance and reflects extensive collaboration between employers, colleges, universities, independent training providers, local authorities, sector bodies and employer representative organisations. Four Strategic Priorities for 2026–2029
The Sussex and Brighton LSIP identifies four key priorities:
- Securing and growing technical capability across the workforce and future talent pipeline.
- Making digital and technological capability a baseline expectation across the workforce.
- Embedding skills for environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

From Planning to Delivery
The publication of the LSIP marks the beginning of an implementation phase that will bring together employers and partners from across Sussex and Brighton to deliver the actions outlined in the accompanying Action Plan. Priority Action Advisory Groups will be established to support delivery, alongside an ongoing programme of employer engagement and collaborative activity.
This work will involve continued collaboration with local authorities, the Sussex and Brighton Strategic Authority, education and training providers, employer representative organisations and wider stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and responsive approach to workforce development.
Official Launch at Sussex Skills 26
The LSIP will be officially launched at Sussex Skills 26, the region’s flagship skills conference, on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at the Amex Stadium, Brighton. The event will bring together employers, education providers, policymakers and industry leaders to discuss the future of workforce development, productivity and employment across Sussex.
