
The Brighton & Hove Growth Board is seeking an experienced and values-driven leader to become the next Chair.
This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership at a pivotal moment for the city’s economy, helping to embed a strong and diverse business voice in economic decision-making and to shape the delivery of the city’s Economic Plan.
About the Role
The Chair provides strategic leadership to the Business Growth Board, ensuring it fulfils its mission to support inclusive, sustainable economic growth for Brighton & Hove. Acting as a key ambassador for the city’s business community, the Chair plays a vital role in fostering collaboration between business, public, voluntary, community and academic partners.
Key responsibilities include providing strategic leadership for the delivery of the city’s Economic Plan and related strategies; chairing quarterly Board meetings and overseeing Executive Committee sessions; acting as a principal advocate for Brighton & Hove’s business interests at local, regional and national levels; ensuring diverse and inclusive representation on the Board; advising strategic partnerships such as the Greater Brighton City Region; and overseeing Board membership, governance, effectiveness reviews and major city business events.
Who We’re Looking For
We are keen to hear from individuals with significant senior leadership experience in business, the public sector or civic organisations; a strong understanding of economic development, strategic planning and partnership working; experience chairing boards or groups with diverse stakeholder representation; excellent communication, facilitation and ambassadorial skills; and a clear commitment to diversity, inclusion and the long-term economic and social wellbeing of Brighton & Hove.
Please note this role is not remunerated.
Proposed Recruitment Timeline
• Week commencing 23 March 2026 – Role advertised and applications invited
• Friday 24 April 2026 (midnight) – Closing date for expressions of interest / applications
• Late April – early May 2026 – Shortlisting and informal discussions
• Mid-May 2026 – Interviews / selection process with Board Members
• Late May 2026 – Chair formally appointed by the Board
• June 2026 – Induction and initial board meeting
